MORE INFO: Child Care and Low Pay Issues Higher wages and family friendly working policies have been called for by Human Resources directors in the manufacturing sector... In a survey by new on-line HR web site, www.HRworldclass.com, people managers from retail, financial, telecomm and manufacturing sectors were asked about working conditions, the issues they face and the future for HR. The need for better child-care and more family focused policies was raised across the industry sectors particularly among the (30%) manufacturing respondents. 30% of companies in the sector already offer an enhanced maternity package and most felt that the new parental leave policies (13 weeks unpaid leave for the first 5 years of their child's life) were a welcome introduction. Paid parental leave, however, did raise serious concerns. Low pay levels leading to low morale were also highlighted by 25% of manufacturing based personnel managers. The Internet site has been established to offer on-line human resources solutions at a fraction of the cost of consultants and lawyers whilst saving both time and costs.
