MORE INFO: E-Commerce 100 Surveys Surveys commissioned by quality assurance organisation, SGS, suggest that e-Commerce firms are not addressing the security and confidentiality concerns of the Internet consumer... One hundred UK based websites selling specialty foods were rated against ten criteria to determine their ability to guarantee the security of transactions and the confidentiality of personal information. Only 11% made any reference to Data Protection. Over two thirds have no stated policy for safeguarding the privacy of personal information. Overall, the average website scored in just three of the ten categories. A survey of 100 UK based websites selling toys and games found that nearly half have yet to display details of their policies for safeguarding the privacy of personal information. Just one in ten had dedicated mechanisms for customers to register complaints. On average sites scored in just four out of ten criteria used to measure security and confidentiality.
