Rather it looks at the benefits that can be achieved by the implementation of this technology and the barriers that may need to be overcome in order to realise such benefits. It is therefore intended to provide an overview for Directors and Senior Managers responsible for the manufacture and distribution of pharmaceuticals and medical devices and for senior level Clinical Managers and Hospital Administrators.

Although a relatively new technology, RFID is very much a ‘hot topic’ at the present time. In the United States, the Department of Defence, and, on a wider basis the retail sector in particular (eg. supermarkets) has identified RFID as being able to provide significant benefits and is pushing ahead with RFID trials and implementations.
